Revised Building Plans Presented
to Parish Includes New Design
In a series
of presentations after Sunday Masses on July 17, 2005 Jim Schellinger
of CSO Architects presented to the parish a revised Phase I outline
for a master building plans. The new proposal being recommended
by St. Gabriel's Building Committee calls for a slightly smaller
church building and somewhat less office space which will still
meet our space requirements but will bring the overall cost of the
project in line with our projected fundraising capabilities.
The archdiocese
is planning a capital campaign called "Legacy for Our Mission"
(LFOM) in which St. Gabriel will participate in the fall of 2005.
In April 2005 there was a parish meeting which considered the possibility
using this campaign for Phase III of our Master Plans which calls
for a Gymnasium/Parish Activity Center. Input from parishioners
at that meeting was nearly equally divided between that proposal
and proceeding with Phase I to build the new church, offices, and
to convert the existing church into a parish hall. In May 2005 the
building committee concluded we should focus on our space needs
and proceed with the new church, offices and conversion of the old
church. In the Gymnasium/Parish Activity Center remains a long-range
Phase III part of our master plan.
Given the fund-raising
challenges we face the committee is recommending a somewhat smaller,
simpler design of the church and office spaces. The lower-cost of
this plan means that with a Legacy for Our Mission fund-raising
goal of $2 million we can share the required portion of that capital
campaign with the archdiocese and still have sufficient funds to
complete this slightly scaled-down Phase I of our master plan. At
the meetings in July the reaction of parishioners was very positive
towards this new plan. Images of the existing and revised plans
are shown below. There are no details yet about the interior design
of the spaces. Those details will be decided once we become closer
to reaching our goals.
