SUNDAY, April 27, Sixth Sunday of Easter

Those who obey the commandments, Jesus says in today’s Gospel, are the ones who really love Him.  Does my stewardship reveal my love for Jesus?

Catholic Home Missions – Today’s special collection is the Catholic Home Missions Appeal.  It supports missions here in the United States. The Catholic Home Missions Appeal offers Catholics across our country a wonderful opportunity to help fellow Catholics to practice their faith in such rugged areas as Alaska, Appalachia, the Deep South, the Rocky Mountain states, the Southwest, Puerto Rico, and island dioceses in the Pacific and Caribbean. The Appeal is a concrete way for our parish to share its faith and resources with the mission Church here at home.  Over 95 cents of every dollar donated to the Appeal goes directly to the missions to keep church doors open, to support pastors in their priestly ministry, and to provide basic pastoral services like religious education for children. Please give generously today to assist fellow Catholics here in America.  It’s one practical way that our parish community can be good stewards of God’s gifts and make a difference.

Script Certificates will be available after all Masses today. Remember that with these certificates you can help the school.  All you have to do is get the certificates.  We have certificates for the major stores and can get

them for most stores.  Check this website for a complete listing: www.glscrip.com.  When you purchase the certificates a percentage of your purchase comes back to the school.

Bible Study will be held today in the Fr. Wright Room at 9:00 a.m. All are welcome. This group is now studying “Parables of the Kingdom.”  Some of the most memorable teachings of Jesus were delivered as parables.  The study will delve into the ways that Jesus invites listeners to experience the Kingdom of God in parables recorded by Mark and adapted by Matthew.  The Bible Study group meets each Sunday beginning with fellowship at 8:30 a.m.  Study time is from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. in the Fr. Dear Parishioners:

In the spring of each year, one of the things I as an administrator must do is talk to employees about their future and employment  for  the next year. (Remember our year is July 1 to June 30).

Last Friday Ken Bramlage chose to retire.  Ken had been in change of maintenance at St. Gabriel for 19 years.  That is a very long time to serve the church.  We are grateful for all he did for us. Our hope is that now he will enjoy his life.

We are pursuing a replacement.

Rachelle Naaman our parish bookkeeper is also leaving.  She has been with us almost 10 years.  But in those years her family has grown to five children.  So right now she needs to be a full time mom.   We really thank her for all she did – and it was a lot as we moved more and more into computer record keeping etc.

We will be looking for a replacement.

We finally have completed the drainage work and the resultant landscaping and installation of a new side walk.  It was a significant task, but it had to be done.

Also work has begun on our wetlands and the trail.  The Lilly Grant will enable us to enhance the outdoor science lab and to fix the playground for the little kids.

Senior Day reminds me of how important our ministry in Catholic Education is.  It is a struggle at times.  But we have something so valuable to our next generation

We have had opportunities in recent weeks to reflect on the Eucharist.  But I hope First Communion is a good reminder to all of us of the importance of weekly Mass.

We really need help with the grounds.  We need a couple people who can help us cut the grass this season. Could you help please?

Sincerely,

Fr. Larry Crawford

Pastor
