Spiritual Life and Worship
Our worship and the spiritual activities are the work that is most visible in a parish. The vitality or lack thereof of our worship is the measuring rod for most parishes. It is what you see on Sunday morning. The Spiritual Life and Worship Commission is the ministry of our parish which oversees our liturgy and prayer activities. Below is an overview of the various committees and organizations which the commission covers. Watch this page for future feature articles about our liturgical celebrations here at St. Gabriel. Also check out our Mass Schedule, Sacraments pages as well as the programs presented by our Faith Formation ministry.

The Spiritual Life and Worship Commission:

  • Communion to the sick -- Ministry to the sick is an important part of parish ministry. In addition to the efforts of the pastoral staff, we have a great group of volunteers that take Holy Communion to the sick and shut-ins of our parish every week. If you know of someone, who cannot get to Church, please let us know.
  • Evangelization -- We are indebted to Pope Paul Vl for refocusing the Catholic Church on this important mission. In recent months St. Gabriel Parish has seen a resurgence of this important task. We have issued press releases about our parish, are developing promotional materials, and you can soon see our parish in TV & radio spot announcements.
  • Liturgy Committee -- Good liturgy does not just happen. It takes many hours of planning and many more hours of lots of hard work to make what seems like a simple yet meaningful celebration. That is the task of the Liturgy Committee. It takes the combined efforts of the professionals and the input of parishioners. Our Liturgy Committee currently needs more input from parishioners. If you are interested in good liturgy, please consider this as a possible exercise of your stewardship.
  • Ministry of Praise -- Prayers are not just for Church as demonstrated by our group known as the Ministy of Praise. It consists of a group of elderly and shut-in parishioners who from time to time receive a letter from Sister Timothy mentioning concerns about which they might pray.
  • Prayer Chain -- Are you or your loved ones ill, facing surgery, in an accident? Do you need lots of prayers in a hurry? A prayer chain of approximately 50 parishioners an be activated with one phone call. You can find a phone number of call on the front of the bulletin.
  • Small Faith Communities -- We have a wonderful parish, and a very lively spirit. But you simply cannot personally relate to all almost 900 families. You can personally relate to only a few persons. Thus it is that based upon the experience of the South American Church where small communities were first developed, many parishes have developed a program called Small Faith Communities. There are a number of parishes in Indianapolis where this has been a very profitable and successful venture. There has been a call for such a development in this parish for some time. Click here for more info on Small Faith Communities.
